Prince Albert's Palace of Varieties

 

Created for the Victoria and Albert Museum exhibition focussing on the Victorians this lively 40 minute performance covers major aspects of life in the reign of Queen Victoria.

Following the format of a Music Hall, your host and master of ceremonies, Prince Albert introduces the following sections:

A little monologue presented by the Queen herself, looking at her life and reign.

Victoria's Adventures in Wonderland, a Lewis Carroll pastiche which includes many of the technological and scientific advancements of Victoria's time.

A cavalcade of characters from societies underclass - testimonies of the poor adapted from Henry Mayhew's famous work.

The performance finishes with a fifteen minute operatic adventure telling the story of the growth of the Empire using a Gilbert and Sullivan score.

Prince Albert's Palace of Varieties offers audience a complete overview of the Victorian era in a fun, lively way which also demonstrates some of the styles of entertainment of the time.
