Steven is 15. He has grown up witnessing domestic abuse in his home. As he has got older the abuse has escalated. How has this affected his own thinking and behaviour?

Safe As Houses explores the effects of domestic abuse on young people. The performance looks at:

• The cycle of domestic abuse
• Substance misuse by young people in families experiencing domestic abuse
• The change in behaviours by children and young people because they have witnessed domestic abuse.
• The guilt young people feel and their need to protect the family
• The confusion that young people experience in terms of love and hate with their parents
• Violent and criminal behaviour carried out by young people in abusive households
• Bullying and victim roles taken on by the young person
